Seventeen years ago, guitarist and vocalist Richard Gibson set out to compose contemporary music for all of Shakespeare's 154 sonnets - and that's how The Shakespeare Heptet was formed.
Why the Sonnets? 154 poems about love in all its guises! Love ballads, angry marching tunes, bittersweet blues, mediations on death, life, absence, beauty and, over and over, the theme of love - its pains, its joys, its pleasures, its unreasonableness - for good or ill.
Folk, blues, punk, tango, bossanova, calypso, rock and more.
No two songs sound the same because each sonnet is unique, and so each one has its own musical style.
